PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Aging and Disability Services, Board of Education and Services for the Blind this class is accountable for directing the social service and rehabilitation teaching programs in the Adult Services Division.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives administrative direction from the Director, Board of Education and Services for the Blind or other administrative official of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Directs staff of division.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Directs staff and operation of the division;
- Coordinates, plans and manages division activities;
- Formulates program goals and objectives;
- Develops or assists in development of related policy;
- Interprets and administers pertinent laws;
- Evaluates staff;
- Prepares or assists in preparation of division budget;
- Maintains contacts with individuals within and outside of division who might impact on program activities;
- Assigns caseloads to social workers and teachers;
- Develops service brochures and participates in agency public education programs as appropriate;
- Leads the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview and selection;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Considerable knowledge of
- principles, methods and current practices of education and social case work for blind and visually handicapped persons;
- eye diseases and psychological effects of blindness;
- Knowledge of
- and ability to apply management principles and practices;
- relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations;
- appropriate state and community resources;
- Considerable
- interpersonal skills;
- oral and written communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity working with adults with visual handicaps.
